Found out that it looks like quite the insiders post, it's still gibberish to those who don't know the game so a short explanation.Setting & basics
The game is set in the 41st millenium. Mankind has spread to numerous planets and encountered many alien races who (also) try to conquer the universe. Each for their own reasons (power, spreading faith, plain hunger, devastation for fun etc).
There's a general set of rules for the game itself and every army has a rulebook which explains the rules for each model. Each model stands for a certain amount of points and has a table detailing it's abilities (shooting, punching etc). The models are from plastic or metal and have to be modelled & painted (just like plastic airplanes). The game
You decide on a total points value and then choose to select your army from different types (leader, troops, elite troops, fast attack & heavy support).
It's a turn-based game. First your models get to move (depends on the model how fast), than they may shoot (if they can) and then they may make an assault move (if they are in range) to punch an enemy squad in the face. Different units are good at different things (being shooty or very strong in close combat).
When you shoot/punch you have to through dice to hit & to wound. Sometimes the armour of the attacked model is strong enough to withstand the attack and the attacked get's a dice roll to see if the armour holds (eg. on a 3+ roll it lives).
3425 pts vs 3425 pts. Take & hold. Which means we had to run up to an objective, and hold it. In this case the big tank in the center. The army which kills the most units (in points) from the opponent + has the most units (points) within a certain range of the objective wins.
I didn't have space in my suitcases etc for my flying tyrant so I borrowed a blood thirster as a stand-in.
A better view at what Chaos (the Chaos armies serve evil gods and seek destruction and more worshippers) brought.
What I brought. (Tyranids seek anything to consume, which basically means they're consuming entire planets with everything on it in the end.)
A view of both armies deployed. The rhino's (tanks on the right top side) contained 30 marines being transports.
A view on the objective (take & hold), 'destroyed' Baneblade (big tank).
After 6 turns of fierce fighting I took the objective with most of the Chaos forces destroyed.
