Books I've read june-december 2012

Around June I wrote a short post about the books I read up till then in 2012. So..this is the other half year.

I continued reading the Horus Heresy series:
- Fulgrim (Graham McNeill)
- Descent of angels (Mitchell Scanlon)
- Legion (Dan Abnett)

All were good reads, although Descent of angels was a bit too fast in wrapping up the plot and too slow in the beginning. I know this is a Warhammer 40K book series, but if you love sci-fi and don't know anything about the 40K universe..this series is still very very awesome.

Ciaphas Cain - Defender of the Imperium (Sandy Mitchell)
The 2nd omnibus. Also set in the 40K universe. Ciaphas is a commissar that tries to avoid trouble and live out his live as easy as he can..but trouble finds him and by the most stupendous luck he seems to always come out on top looking the hero. Since everyone thinks he's a hero..they send him off to dangerous missions..where he tries to avoid danger, messes up the avoiding part and the circle goes on. It sounds a bit silly..but Mitchell does it really well. Plenty of laughs in cool 40K sci-fi adventure stories.

Other books:
Starship Troopers (Robert A Heinlein)
A sci-fi classic that deserves its status. It starts a bit slow, but I loved it. It's not a big book, it's not an all too heavy read..so if you get the chance to read it..do so!

Dexter is delicious (Jeff Lindsay)
More known for the tv-series, but the books were there first. The storyline in the books is really different enough to read even if you're up to date with the tv-series. I enjoyed this 5th book and I'll probably try and get my hands on the 6th in 2013. There were only some small things that bugged me a bit. For instance Lindsay's repetative stress on the busy Miami traffic, after 4 books..we know! There was something else, but I've forgotten it already so it must only be a minor annoyance. A very cool read.

Sookie Stackhouse novels - Dead reckoning (Charlaine Harris)
I don't know why they changed the covers of some of the paperbacks to the almost girly glittery vampire styled books...since it just doesn't fit the story inside. These books aren't about glittery vampires and way too much teen angst... The book isn't grim, but it's a decent story and shows why the tv-series for it is so much better than a guilty pleasure like Vampire Diaries. The storyline isn't as different as the Dexter books vs series, but still enough not to be troubled with all important spoilers. Oh and I might have read the book before this one also somewhere the past half year, but I'm not sure. It's the 11th book and I already want the 12th.

I probably read some more..but I'm not sure when or what at the moment...so I'll leave it.

Things on my reading list for 2013:
- Song of Ice and Fire (the books from Games of Thrones). There are currently 5 and they're not expensive and I only hear people praising them.
- the 6th Dexter book
- the 12th and 13th Sookie book
- lots more Horus Heresy books (battle of the abyss is up next).

So..what did you read or want to read?

Tracey read the Sookie Stackhouse novels and quite liked them if I remember correctly. I think she felt they were different enough from the series so that one didn't overwrite the other but then she also noted as you did there were definite spoilers

what's also always fun with these kind of things (books with tv-series) that other people die/stay alive.
