Braaaaaaaaaaaains!

So next to being a communications student, I do some Linguïstics on the side. And we had a college where we were allowed to cut pigbrains in pieces to see if we could recognize the different parts of the brain.

The entire brain seen from the bottom IIRC (small brains, brainstem and both sides):

This almost didn't resemble brain anymore:

I was hungry...whaaaaaaaaaaaat? (one of the last photo's where I still have my beard..it's gone now).

Nice detail shot of both sides split apart (the brainstem lies on the wrong side of the brain atm)

Suffice to say I had fun. It made me think of the new Zoanthrope head with it's squirmy brains.

That's pretty revolting.

I did a communication studies degree at university, but never had to cut up pig brains.

the cutting up brains isn't part of the communications study, but of the Linguïstics study ;)
But quite mushy ey :)

mhmmm.. nothing like pig's brain soup. this sounds ridiculous but the chinese here believe that eating pig's brain soup will make you smarter. that's why mothers are always preparing that stuff for kids here the day before their exams.

at least it's obvious my mom never prepared that for me.

What's the point in knowing the brain parts tangibly for linguistics?

Unless my understanding of linguistics is wrong of course...

Btw pig's brain=uber calories yes?

that is because after the bachelor degree of Linguïstics you can go on with master degrees which involve research with (f)MRI, EEG etc and there you need to know which part is what. And seeing it on screen is one thing, but actually poking around seeing it more upclose works better.

@ the calorie q...well is it Deb? Maybe a big calorie boost for the brains ;)
