Tsunami vs 9-11
I came across this Brazillian commercial from WWF, which as far as I understand is no(t) longer shown on tv.
WWF already excused itself for this and said it should never have been published etc. But on the other hand..if there wasn't such a fuss about it I would have probably not seen this on a Dutch newspaper website. Maybe..after 8 years (no matter how difficult it still is) people should no longer cringe about it as hard as if it was published on 10-11. Although it still doesn't feel quit right to put it out as a commercial.

It's a good point, I suppose, but what was the purpose?
To scare people? I mean if you're not a nature-lover, showing how brutal nature can be would not make you want to protect it. It'd make you want to cut down all of the trees, kill all non-food animals and build giant fifties-sci-fi-style domes over everything.
No matter what, bringing up September 11th is not a way to bring people to your cause.
Me, I accept weather (though I only had to personally deal with one weather-related death). However, I still get a bit of the old 'monkey fears' when the wind roars and the trees around our house are whipping around like a field of wheat (we live at 925ft above a valley).
You must really have to accept nature's potential fury, what with so much of the Netherlands being below sea level.
Holy crap. Good commercial. Puts everything back in perspective.
10-11... you mean 9-12?
:)
Americans have a big problem. If it happens to us, it is a global tragedy. If it happens in china, it is just a 5 minute news story.
People in Iraq have been having something like one 9-11 per month since the US invaded Iraq. And the Tsunami was, as we all know, about 100 times more deadly.
yes I did mean 9-12.
made the error because our notation of dates is the other way around..(dd-mm-yy)
R2k: I thought the "it only matters if it happens to us" thing was what they were shooting for, and that was something I agree with(though not really within the WWF's purview).
However the tagline sort of changed the point of the piece.
@Arjan: you crazy Europeans with your goofy dating! It's as wacky as your 'metric system' ;)
crazy and goofy and proud of it :P
Too bad it's removed already :(
search for tsunami wwf, you'll get a vid telling that it has been removed, but giving a url that ís working.
